d2_s  : (31 August 2010 - 08:00 PM) There certainly is a big shift toward 1200 M$ points on XBLA. Seems 800 point titles are a rarity now.
Goldenheart  : (31 August 2010 - 11:15 PM) MS seems to be pushing for extra profit lately. XBLA game price hike, Gold price hike, & now their new special d-pad controller that only sells w/the P'NCharge kit.
Todd  : (01 September 2010 - 02:20 AM) watching "the Losers" not even Stringer Bell can save this flick
TonyDP  : (01 September 2010 - 06:50 AM) Alien Breed XBLA is 400 points this week; demo was pretty good and I'm debating whether to get the full game. Given how everything else is selling for 1200 points it may be worth a grab.
TonyDP  : (01 September 2010 - 06:52 AM) I tried the Vanquish demo; pretty nice graphics but the dialog and cinemas are beyond cheese and the art style is a little too anime-inspired for my tastes. The scarcity of ammo also makes that boss battles artificially harder than they have to be. I'll be curious to read some reviews on the full game but I think I'll wait for a price drop before thinking about buying in.
d2_s  : (01 September 2010 - 06:43 PM) I wanted to try the Vanquish demo, but it's not available in my region yet...
d2_s  : (01 September 2010 - 06:43 PM) Also hate shooters that arteficially inflate difficulty by having limited ammo. That is not fun...
Mister Y  : (01 September 2010 - 07:16 PM) I didn't have a problem with the ammo. Anyway, I hope Platinum never stops making these crazy ass games.
SpaceInsomniac  : (02 September 2010 - 01:19 AM) Neither did I, Y
HumpYourWayT...  : (02 September 2010 - 08:39 AM) damn where is everybody? Need to post another heretic post :whistling:
LeadBetter  : (02 September 2010 - 08:52 AM) Don't let the lack of an audience stop you....it never has before. :)
d2_s  : (02 September 2010 - 10:44 AM) LOL
SpaceInsomniac  : (02 September 2010 - 02:32 PM) Zing!

In my travels around the east coast I find that the "Wii looks best on an EDTV" statement to be perfectly true. It's not just about look, either... lots of HDTVs that have penetrated homes have a bit of a lag issue about them, even when playing 480p.I've found gameplay on 20" EDTVs and SDTVs with component in to provide the best picture quality for the Wii. They don't really make LCD EDTVs larger than that though, or in a widescreen model, which is unfortunate because I wouldn't mind getting something slightly taller than a 4:3 20". EDTV plasmas exist, but chances are the prices are too steep for a secondary TV.
You can get EDTV's bigger than 20" I know someone with a 42" EDTV, thing is since the price of HDTV is coming down less people are making EDTV. His TV is like this, only in black. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-TH-42PD50U...a/dp/B0007WKB4QAlso look here, tons of 46"-50" EDTV's. Like I said I know someone with a 42" he got from Costco, it was cheap and DVD's and Wii look great on it, hell Xbox 360 still looks pretty darn good.http://www.shopping.com/xPP-Flat_Panel_Tel...or___edtv_readyBTW, reason like this is exactly why I haven't upgraded my HDTV yet. I have a 57" Toshiba 57HX84 and it is a CRT rear projection, it handles 480i/p, 720p, 1080i perfectly and the Wii actually looks quite good (not 360 good but still good) with minimal jaggies since my TV supports that resoultion. I have a 32" LCD TV that I use too and I have a PS2 Slim connected to it and games look good but aren't perfect in the screen like on my 57" CRT RPTV. I dislike that LCD's and Plasma have NATIVE resoultions since when they get a non-native image they resize it and it doesn't usually look great. I just recently (March) upgraded from CRT computer monitor (22") to a 24" 16:10 LCD monitor for the same reasons.I would love to have a sleek 65" plasma hung on my wall but my 57" CRT RPTV is just too good for image quality and since I don't really need the extra space I'm gonna stick with it for a while. When watching HD cable broadcasts, playing Xbox 360, connecting a computer my 32" LCD looks just as good (if not better) than my 57" HDTV CRT RPTV. However, when I connect PS2, Wii or standard DVD is doesn't match the image quality at all. Although I'm still surprised at how well it handles SDTV from my Cable box, but that is probably because it is outputting a HD signal since direct cable from wall to TV doesn't look as good.

LOL, you're too funny. Mario Party 8 isn't innovative at all. It is a Gamecube Mario Party title with about 10 games added to support the Wii Remote. It doesn't even support widescreen in the games, just in the menus. Its a shoddy game at best, but my girlfriend sure does enjoy playing it, so does my fiancee for that matter.

Ha!

I know a woman, and by know I mean carnal knowledge you see, who has played ONE game in her entire life and it was one of the Mario Party games... 6 I think, the one with the microphone, which I got for $5.

She said it was too complicated and quit halfway through.

Ha!

I've seen the plasmas before, and while they look good, they have too many things going against them for me to really put down the money for one. The burn-in with 4:3 content, screen door effect, low portability, price. Something around the 26" (widescreen) range would be just right for my traveling purposes.

Yeah I had known that Nintendo wasn't going to make the Wii HD. I had been running on a 26" HD CRT when I got the Wii and it looked damn good on it. Though I decided I needed a TV that was more up to date and had a larger screen since I watch movies all the time with my friends. My old CRT was way too bulky and ridiculously heavy, but that's how the first HDTVs were. I wanted a flat panel LCD and as a PS3 owner I wanted 1080P so I upgraded. That's when I learned the Wii looks worse on newer technology. :p But that's okay, I can accept it. It's really not as bad as I thought when I actually sit a good distance away. It's a little disappointing though. I tried out a bunch of games on my OGXbox in 480P and the graphics held up quite nice with far less jaggies than the Wii. I thought that was interesting. As far as the Wii goes, it really depends on the game that's being played too. I have yet to try Resident Evil 4 Wii edition, but the Gamecube version is an embarassing jagfest and way too small on my screen since the game is letterboxed. Zooming in is not even worth it, it degrades the graphics. Mark my words, my GC version will no longer be in my possession, I need to get the Wii version just for 16:9. Thanks everyone for your replies. :pig_ball: :rtfm:

For the third or fourth time, yes, I got that. But that doesn't get them a get out of jail free card. We're free to complain. Do you understand yet?

I warned you guys Wii was a novelty, and for some of you the effect has worn off. Since I warned you all, that means you can't complain?
Nintendo warned you with the Cube they hated online multiplayer. Since they warned you all, that means you can't complain about friend codes and lack of multiplayer games?
Nintendo warned you all they were making Wii for non-gamers. Does that mean you can't complain about a lack of interesting games?

Honestly, if you don't own the console, I don't think you should complain. You're giving them the biggest rejection possible: you won't support their product in any way whatsoever. A complete boycott. To complain on top of that is just ridiculous.

If you own the console though, you bought it, and then you have the right to complain if it's less than what you payed for. If Nintendo puts out bad games, don't buy them! If they put out a bad console, don't buy it! Your dollars are your strongest weapon, they're the boards and planks that keep Nintendo afloat. Some boards are deeper in the ship, and might be harder to remove (I'm pretty far in there I bet, but I haven't bought a Micro or anything) but ultimately, if all of them stop supporting Nintendo, the ship is going to sink, or lurch downward in a dangerous manner. To try to shoot the ship with canonballs from the shore though, that's just overkill, and really isn't necessary.

Do I complain about how much the PS3 sucks? No, not really, I just choose to not buy it because I think I won't be getting what I'd pay for it. I chose instead to buy my first gaming rig, which I now think was well worth the money. I've thought all kinds of games weren't worth $50, and I just haven't bought them (not like I had the money to anyways). If you don't support something, don't fund it. It really ought to be as simple as that.

It's a mindset that I've heard of for years, and I've (up until now) been pretty naive about. It really is worth listening to, I've now found. :p

And her point is, even if someone let's you know what he/she is about to do, if what he/she does sucks, she will complain about it because the previous announcement does nothing to the suckiness of the act.

As an example, I could tell you that I will $#@% on your car, and then $#@% on your car. I can't go up to you and say that you got nothing to complain about because I told you in advance that I was going to $#@% on your car.

Another more spot on example. I could tell you guys in advance that I am going to make a TV that only does SD and no color. So I make my SD no color TV. My announcement doesn't change that my TV sucks by today's standard.
Regarding Crysis, what Archetype says

QUOTE
I don't think it's the best-looking game I've seen.

QUOTE
There're a near limitless amount of games I can think of that have a more pleasing appearance, that is, do what they do better than I think Crysis does what it does visually

QUOTE
And some of the other games are Metroid Prime, Street Fighter 3, Final Fantasy Tactics, Metal Gear Solid 3, Unlimited SaGa, etc.

Nintendo has made it clear they don't care about my dollars.
Even though I own more Nintendo games than any other companies, I own 3 GBAs, a GBC, virtualboy, GCN, SNES, (deceased) NES, a pokcet pikachu and some other handheld which shall remain nameless.

And I wasn't complaining about the grapics, just backing up someone elses right to complain.

Complaining about the Wii's graphics is like buying a subcompact car and complaining that you can't go offroading with it.

I agree with that, my compliant with the Wii isn't that the graphics are sub par when compared to the other consoles. My complaint is that the system lacks grade A games right now, I'm hoping Metroid Prime 3 fixes that.

God damn is this correct... When someone offered me a stupid amount of money for my Wii it wasn't the graphics that made me say yes, it was the fact that since Zelda the stupid thing sat there completely unused with nothing in sight I really wanted to play. "I'll buy it again later when it has some good games on it" I said, and I will... Is Metroid 3 the one? Judging from screens and info I think not, but you never know.

I might just be over the Nintendo style, as I have mentioned before.

Regardless, while I certainly wish the games looked better, and I look at something like the new Ratchet and Clank and I say "even simple animation-style characters really benefit from HD and better hardware," my main gripe with the Wii is about games.

I think the graphics will improve (if only a little bit). We are still on the 1st generational wave of games. Still are you talking about the games themselves or the quality of the console's graphics on HDTVs?

 But don't you get it? It is my "god-given" right to complain! And by you saying so you have taken such right away from me! This topic isn't about cars, it's about me! I need attention... say something so that I can tell you are wrong... uhm... or not... hey is Gaizokubanou taking a $#@% on the subcompact? :p

Just joking by the way. :)

No it's not! You're not allowed to have an opinion cause Nintendo warned you. You should've done your research so you can only blame yourself.

Completely agree with you yet again ... this is rather odd is it not?

It's not the Wii's graphics turning me off the system, I loved twilight princess despite its last generation look, but apart from that there was nothing else on the system worthy of holding my attention and even the PS3 with it's software drought has managed to hold my attention more than the Wii!!!

Even the future software lineup looks rather bleek... there is nothing to look forward to other than Mario and Metroid to me and I am even luke-warm on metroid.

Yeah, it's pretty funny the PS3 has "no games on it" but I own 3, plus a few downloaded games, and that's more than I'm interested in on the Wii.

You sure thought different about 10 months ago. I still remember that thread where you just couldn't wait to get your hands on the console. Anyway do you think you will change your mind if a new special game comes along?

I think you are overexagerating... if you had followed every thread I have posted in since pre-Wii to now you'll find I started off a hater, got a bit excited and then reality kicked in again ... but I know you are a shit stirrer so I am going to leave it there :)

Agreed. Though I'm at 2 retail PS3 games, at least for the next week or so.
Though I have to hand it to them, SuperStardust is very addictive
